  • Taft swimmers compete in multi day meet

  • It was the final time the Taft Tigersharks swimmers got to compete in a weekend meet before the championship this coming Saturday.
    They made the most of it Friday and Saturday with a number of first place finishes in the Mark V. Brown Summer Spectacular in Bakersfield.
    Samuel Barnes and Cooper Golling led the way with each winning five races.
    Barnes started his run with a first place win in the 13-year old boys 100-yard freestyle where he finished in a time of 58.67. Barnes second victory took place in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:14.97.
    The next victory for Barnes was in the 100-yard IM, finishing with a time of 1:09.82. Barnes fourth win was in the 50-yard breaststroke where he had a time of 34.44. His final victory was in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 26.78.
    Meanwhile, Golling won his first race in the six year old boys 50-yard freestyle with a time of 46.34. The second win was in the 50-yard backstroke where he finished in a time of 57.93.
    Golling’s next win was in the 100-yard IM with a time of 2:00.51. His fourth victory was in the 25-yard backstroke with a time of 30.36.
    Golling’s final win was in the 25-yard butterfly where he finished in a time of 28.30.
    Presley Golling joined the multi winners list for Taft by winning four.
    Golling’s first came in the 10-year old boys 100 freestyle with a time of 1:15.64.
    The second victory was in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:26.31.
    Golling’s third win was in the 100-yard IM with a time of 1:31.10 while his final victory was in the 50-yard backstroke with a time of 40.48. Golling also finished second in the 50-yard freestyle with a time 34.15.
    Antonia Perier had the other victory for Taft by winning the nine year old girls 50-yard breaststroke with a time of 47.85. Perier also finished second in the 100-yard freestyle and the 100-yard backstroke with respective times of 1:18.74 and 1:29.57. Perier also finished third in the 50-yard butterfly with a time of 43.10.
    Ruby Stith had a trio of second place results starting with the 15-18 year old girls 100-yard breaststroke where she had a time of 1:25.69. Stith was also second in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:30.31 and the 50-yard breaststroke with a time of 39.13. Stith was third in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 31.04.
    Jeffrey Conley continued the run of second place finishes by placing second in the 12-year old boys 50-yard freestyle with a time of 33.71. He also was third in the 50-yard backstroke with a time of 41.70.
    Vienna Perier was second in the five and under girls 25-yard backstroke with a time of 34.37. Meanwhile, Cherise Strong was third in the 11-year old girls 50-yard freestyle with a time of 32.89.
    Page 2 of 2 - Brooke Ashmore finished fourth twice. The first one was in the nine year old girls 100-yard IM where she finished with a time of 1:39.83.
    Ashmore was also fourth in the 50-yard backstroke with a time of 47.48. Kane Dayton was fourth in the eight year old boys 100-yard IM with a time of 2:40.34.
    Lucas Dayton also had a pair of fourth place results. His first came in the six year old boys 25-yard backstroke with a time of 31.92 while the second was in the 25-yard freestyle with a time of 26.39.
    Taft will hold the Kern County Swim Council Championship this Saturday. The first meet is set for 9 a.m.
