Sheriff's investigators arrest Bakersfield man, find 266 signs

Kern County Sheriff's detectives had been investigating the theft of antique oilfield signs stolen from the Taft area, and this week they found them.

They were being sold on eBay.

Detectives from the Rural Crimes Investigations Unit found out about the online sales and started digging.

The investigation led them to obtain a search warrant for a home at 710 Bryce Street in Bakersfield Detectives said they recovered 266 stolen signs with an estimated value of $30,000.
They arrested Dustin Drake, 35, on charges of possession of stolen property.

Some of the signs were reported stolen and others were unreported, detectives said.

A week ago detectives asked for the public's help in finding out who was responsible for the theft of signs from oilfields along Highway 119.
