People were awakened all over Taft about 2:45 a.m.
If you were startled out of a sound sleep about 2:45 a.m. Monday by some very loud noises, you weren't alone.
People all over town heard several loud explosions.
The big booms came from the Ford City area.
Neither the Kern County Fire Departement or Kern County Sheriff had any information, but
Taft Police were called to the 300 block of Fillmore Street at the time.
It was determined to be fireworks, Taft Police Chief Ed Whiting said.
People reported hearing the blasts all over Ford City and as far away as Grey Way, just off A Street in Taft Heights.
