A Taft woman convicted of taking a bike from a man was sentenced to 3 years in jail this week.
Kayla Elyne Melton 19, pleaded no contest to one count of grand theft from a person on June 18 and was sentenced on July 30.
One count of second degree robbery was dismissed.
Melton was arrested on June 1 in connection with the incident, which was reported to Kern County Sheriff's deputies on May 25.
The victim, a man whose name was not released, told deputies he was riding his bike on the 200 block of Madison Street when two woman accosted him and demanded his bike, one woman punched him, the victim told deputies, and the other woman took the bike.
The second suspect was not arrested and has not been charged.
In addition to the jail time, Melton was fined $360.
Melton will receive credit for 120 days served, which includes good time.
According to the Kern County Sheriff's jail website, her anticipated release date is Nov. 30, 2014.
