February 8, 1929 - August 7, 2013

Jean Van Epps Stewart ~ was the greatest Mom! She has now joined her twin sister Lois at their playground in Heaven on August 7, 2013. Born in a lease house on 25 Hill, February 8, 1929, she enjoyed 84 glorious years on this earth. The second baby of twins, she weighed only 3 pounds at birth and was put in a shoebox and placed on the oven door to be kept warm. Raised by parents "Van" and "Cece" Van Epps, she grew up playing on 25 Hill with twin sister Lois and brother, Lloyd. Jean graduated from Taft Union High School in 1946, Taft College in 1948 and married Henry C. Stewart in 1953. She worked for Mobil Oil and West Kern Water District prior to a 24-year career at Taft College. Mom was a strong and determined woman who overcame many obstacles throughout her life. She was a loving and sacrificial mother who always provided for and believed in her children. The year she retired she moved to Sacramento to be near her twin sister Lois. Mom was an avid reader who enjoyed playing bridge and travelling in her retirement years, often accompanying her sister Lois and brother in-law Richard Parker in their 5th wheel around the United States. She also enjoyed trips to Hawaii, Europe and Canada. We celebrate her positive impact on all of us and reflect on many wonderful memories with her throughout her life. She is preceded in death by her parents and her sister Lois. She is survived by her brother Lloyd and three children from her marriage to Henry: Richard Stewart (Jane) from Clovis, CA; Jill Knight (Matt) from Pittsburgh, PA., and Julie Joseph (August) from Kapaa, HI. She is also survived by 7 grandchildren: Leslie & Jonathan Stewart, Jeffrey, Scott & Garrett King, Kristeen & Kara Lee Dobbs, and 3 great-grandchildren: Jewelia & Jameson King and Ka'ua Aqui. The family would like to thank her brother Lloyd for his excellent care of Mom, as well as Dr. Lisa Madarang, Mercy Hospice and Queen of Hearts Eldercare, all in Sacramento, CA. As Jean would say…….To Each His Own!
