Long time Taft resident Gilbert Claire Brown Jr died Saturday August 3rd, just two months before his 90th birthday.
Gilbert was born to father Gilbert Claire Brown Sr and mother Leslie May Brown in October 1923. After serving proudly in the US Navy during World War 2, Gilbert returned to Taft where he had two children with his then wife Helen. Son Terry was born in 1945 and daughter Sherry in 1951.
At age 32, Gilbert suffered a cerebral hemorrhage that left him paralyzed on his right side.
Armed with his faith and the loving support of his family, Gilbert fought his way back from near death, learning how to speak and walk all over again. Gilbert could often be seen conversing with fellow residents over coffee or driving around town in his car.
Gilbert was an independent man with a great love for his family which includes his surviving sister Norma, his two children, six grandchildren, and many great-grandchildren.
His distinct laugh and boyish smile be greatly missed.
