The Taft girls golf team officially kicked off the fall sports season Tuesday afternoon by shooting a 258 against Teahachapi at the Horse Thief Golf Course at Stallion Springs.
“Our team score was 258, a very respectable score considering the difficulty of the course and much lower than I expected,” said Taft coach Mike Cowan.
Raegan Sorensen shot the lowest round of the day for Taft with a 48.
Kennedy Sorensen was one stroke back with a 49 while Kayla Kaszycki shot a 50.
Arizona Pilgrim chipped in with a 52 with Josey Burke shooting a 59. Jesekah Rogers rounded out the scoring with a 60.
According to Cowan, Pilgrim had the highlight of the day for Taft by getting a shot within eight feet on a par three before going on to shoot a birdie.
“This is a tough track with out of bounds on every hole and water on many,” said Cowan.
“Lost balls are common and granite outcroppings eat up even good shots.
Our girls stayed out of trouble and played smart golf keeping the ball in play and incurring very few penalty strokes.”
According to Cowan, the Lady Warriors did not have a team score.
After competing in their first match at Buena Vista on Thursday, the Lady Wildcats return to action Monday in the Tee Off Classic at North Kern Golf Course.
The match begins at noon.
