  • On August 26, 2013 a tragic accident occurred that took the life of a great, loving and considerate man who would always put others before himself.  He never thought twice about giving you the last dollar in his pocket, stopping to see if you were ok or needed a helping hand, went home to be with our heavenly Father.  Chico wanted nothing more than to put a smile on everyone's face.  He always provided everything the family needed or wanted.  Chico never met a stranger.  He loved everyone.  He loved animals. He had a special place in his heart for everyone he ran across.  He loved to take his great-granddaughter, Walla (Billiejade) on all the walks she wanted throughout the day, no matter how many.  And most of all, he loved his family.  Chico was a very dependable, hardworking man.  Whenever anyone needed him he never thought twice about going to help.  He worked for Unical Oil Co. for over 20 years, then went on to drive for Johnston Vacuum, from where he retired after 13 years.  Chico was born in Albuquerque, New Mexico on February 16, 1949  where he also met his high school sweetheart, Barbara McKenzie.  They have been married for 46 years.  Chico is preceded in death by his father, Joe Chavez; mother Ruth Cordova; brothers, David Chavez and Michael Cordova; sister, Barbara Cordova; grandson, Billy Cox; great-grandson, Eliga Blu Monzon; and nephew, Max Griego.  Chico is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Barbara Chavez; his daughters, DeeDee Murch and Rob Fredrickson and Lisa Milne and her husband, Steve; grandchildren, Heather Cox, Savannah Cox, Daylan Platt, Tiffany Cox, Logyn Chavez and Trenton Milne; great-grandchildren, Blaze and Kaiden Monzon, Billiejade and Emmitt Alfred Pohl; brother, Levi and Mary Cordova; sisters, Lupe and Steve Hermann, Corrina and Max Griego and Joann Cordova; nieces and nephews, Joe, Bobby, Eddie and Maudie Chavez, Cleo Cordova, Mariah, Martina, Jamie, Simon and Stephen Hermann, Simona, Rosemary, Rufina and Michael Griego; his special friends, Billy Cox, James Pohl, Jeff Benton, Larry Bullard and Dave French.  A very special thank you to Keith Watkins.  Visitation will be held on Monday, September 2, 2013 from 3:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Erickson & Brown Funeral Home.  A memorial service will be held on Thursday, September 5, 2013, at 1:00 p.m. at Westside Believers Fellowship.  A reception will follow the service at the Moose Lodge.  To sign an online registry or express condolences please visit www.EricksonAndBrown.com.
