Firefighters halt spread before RV catches fire

Fire burned a patio shelter, furniture and a fence in Taft Friday evening.
The fire broke out just before 7 p.m. in the rear of a house on the 500 block of North Street, sending a column of smoke over the downtown area.

Kern County firefighters knocked the fire down quickly.

The fire also melted some of the plastic on the grill of an RV parked in the alley but the fire was knocked down before the vehicle sustained major damage.
No cause was immediately available.
