Father died at scene, boy is at Los Angeles Children's Hospital
The motorcycle rider killed in this morning's accident in Taft has been identified by Taft Police as Robert Mansell, 56, of Taft.
Mansell's 12-year old son was a passenger on the Harley Davidson motorcycle and was severely injured in the accident on Highway 33 at Wood Street.
The boy, whose name was not released, was taken by ambulance to a helicopter and flown to Kern Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.
He was later to transferred to Los Angeles Children Hospital for a higher level of care, Whiting said.
Both father and son were wearing helmets, Whiting said
The driver of the truck was identified as Chad Harrelson, 38, of Bakersfield.
He was not injured.
Whiting said drugs and alcohol were not factors in the crash. The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
