  • Two men were arrested and charged with assault with a deadly weapon after a pair of related assaults.
One of the suspects was the victim in one of the assaults, Taft Police are saying.
The first incident took place about 7:30 p.m. in 500 block of Fifth Street.
Lt. Pete Aranda said officers responded there and later contacted Ernesto Ancelmo, 33, who was suffering from a head wound.
Ancelmo told officers that he was walking down the street and stopped to talk with a woman in the yard at 510 Fifth Street when a man rushed out of the house and attacked him with a beer bottle, breaking it on his head.
Officers went to that residents and detained both the woman and the man, Aranda said, and Ancelmo identified the man, Manual Jesse Miranda Jr., 22, as the suspect.
Miranda was arrested and booked for assault with a deadly weapon
Less than two hours later officers were called back to the same address, this time for a reported stabbing.
There they found Susan Archuleta, the woman who had spoken with Ancelmo earlier in the night, and a second woman, identified as Cynthia Trevino, 51.
Trevino suffered what Aranda described as a "minor laceration to her pinkie"
The woman told officers they were in the house when Archuleta answered a knock at the door.
Trevino told officers as she approached the door, she saw the suspect, whom they identified as Ancelmo, swing a kitchen knife at Archuleta.
Trevino attempted to intervene and was cut in the finger, Aranda said.
Ancelmo fled the scene but was was located at his residence a short distance away.
Ancelmo was then arrested and charged with assault with a deadly weapon.
Both men were still in custody Tuesday in the Kern County Sheriff's central receiving facility.
Miranda is being held on $25,000 bail.
Ancelmo is being held without bail on the assault charge and a no-bail immigration hold from the United States Border Patrol.
