The Taft varsity volleyball team's return to single match play ended in defeat Wednesday night with a 25-12, 29-27, 25-17 loss to Frazier Mountain in Lebec.
Frazier Mountain had the momentum from the start by jumping out to an 8-1 lead. Taft snapped the run but the Lady Falcons went on a 7-2 run. Frazier Mountain would hold a 10-11 point lead until the end when they went on a 4-1 run.
After a series of ties, to begin the second set, Taft went on a 3-1 run to lead 12-9. Frazier Mountain bounced back to tie the score at 12. It looked as if Taft would pull away with a 9-2 run but the Lady Falcons stormed back to tie the score at 22. The teams would tie each other five more times before Frazier Mountain scored the final two points to win the set.
Taft came to life again early in the third set by jumping out to a 6-2 lead. Frazier Mountain cut the lead to one before tying the score at seven and again at eight and 10. The teams tied each other two more times before the Lady Falcons went on a 12-4 run to close out the set and match.
