Taft men split two matches while women's team lose

Taft College’s soccer teams had mixed results in weekend action.

The Cougar men split two matches in the Mt. San Antonio College tournament, losing to Southwestern 1-0 on Friday before rebounding Sunday for a 3-2 victory over City College of San Francisco.  CCSF was runner-up in last year’s state championships.

The Cougar women, meanwhile, dropped a 3-1 decision to Santa Barbara City College on the road.  It was the Cougars’ first loss after opening the season with three consecutive victories.

Details on the three matches will appear in Friday’s edition.

The Cougar women travel to Santa Clarita today to take on College of the Canyons and will host El Camino College Friday at 1 p.m. on the San Emidio Street field.

The men’s team gets a break in the action since Friday’s scheduled home match with reigning state champion Mt. San Antonio was cancelled because of a scheduling mix-up.  In its tournament, Mt. SAC tied CCSF 1-1.

The Cougars (3-3-0) will return to action Sept. 24 when they host southern California powerhouse Cerritos College.
