The oil worker accused of attacking a coworker with a 24-inch wrench failed to appear in court for his arraignment Wednesday morning.
Michael Ralph Atkison, 46, of Bakersfield was free on $100,000 bail but that bond has now been forfeited, according to the Kern County Superior Court website.
Abench warrant has been issued for his arrest.
Atkison is charged with assault with a deadly weapon and accused of striking Bobby Fitts, 31, in the head with a wrench on Berry Petroleum property east of Derby Acres on Sept. 6.
Atkison fled the scene in a pickup but later abandoned the truck and was arrested at Buena Vista Golf Course after employees at the course saw him acting suspiciously, Kern County Deputies said.
Fitts suffered an open skull fracture in the attack and was airlifted to Kern Medical Center.
He is still recovering from his injury.
