A man arrested for stealing a compressor from an oil company near Fellows was sentenced to 90 days in jail Tuesday.
Russell Barry Jones, 44, entered a no contest plea to one count of petty theft and a second count of possession of stolen property was dropped.
Jones, who has been in custody since his arrest on August 30, will receive credit for 40 days time served – 20 days in jail and 20 days for good time.
Jones was arrested four days after Venoco reported the theft of the Dewalt compressor to the Kern County Sheriff's Office.
The Sheriff's Rural Crimes investigations Unit started an investigation, and photographic evidence from Venoco was circulated to other oil companies in the area.
Several people identified Jones as the suspect, according to the RCIU, and he was arrested by RCIU investigators, Taft Police and parole agents in South Taft.
