It wasn't the way the Taft varsity volleyball team wanted to open their home schedule or start league play after falling 25-15, 25-22, 25-18 to the Shafter Generals.
The beginning of the first set was close with the Lady Wildcats trailing at one point 4-3 and 5-4. However, the Lady Generals caught fire with six unanswered points. Taft narrowed the deficit down to five but Shafter responded by building their lead to seven at 17-10. Taft fought back to get within five, but the Lady Generals went on a 6-1 run to close out the first set.
Shafter carried that momentum over into the second set before Taft closed the gap to one. After Shafter took off with a 5-0 run, Taft countered to get within three. The set remained close until the Lady Generals built a six point advantage. Taft made one last run to get within two before Shafter took the second set.
While Shafter scored the first two points of the final set, Taft bounced back with a 5-3 advantage. After Shafter tied the score, Taft regained the lead with the Lady Wildcats winning by three at one point. Following a series of ties, Shafter outscored Taft 13-6 to take the set and match.
