Time was quickly running out and so were the chances for the Taft varsity football team Friday night. That is when chaos hit. When the dust had settled it was the Wildcats that had pulled out a dramatic 14-7 victory over the Arvin Bears on homecoming night in Taft.
Long before the events that set up the game winning touchdown happened, Taft and Arvin were having a rough start holding onto the ball with each side recovering a fumble in the first series for both teams. At the same time both sides had trouble getting onto the scoreboard.
Taft would eventually score a touchdown late in the first quarter while Arvin scored one in the second quarter. The score stayed 7-6 until a little over halfway through the fourth quarter when Joseph Sanchez fumbled the ball on a run deep into Bear territory. There was a fight for the ball that carried into the endzone with Taft recovering the ball in the endzone for the go ahead touchdown with 5:45 to play.
