Driver suffered from medical problem, police say
A truck veered off Sixth Street, down an embankment, across a parking area and into the landscaping at Pilot Plaza Thursday afternoon.
Police said it appears the driver suffered some sort of medical problem that caused him to lose control.
The accident occurred at 3:50 p.m.
The truck was northbound on Sixth near Emmons Park Drive when the accident happened.
Chief of Police Ed Whiting said the man, whose name wasn't immediately available, had a medical problem, possibly a stroke or seizure, that caused him to lose control of the pickup.
The truck came to rest against a small tree in front of Fred's Cigarette Store.
The driver was unconscious for a time, then regained consciousness but was dazed.
He was taken by ambulance to a Bakersfield Hospital for treatment.
