Deputies found large amount of illegal drugs when he was arrested

A Taft man arrested on drug trafficking charges last summer received a two-year jail sentence.

Mario Alarcon, 43, entered a no contest plea to one count of possession for sale at a hearing in September and was sentenced earlier this week.

Alarcon was arrested at a home in the 700 block of A Street by Kern County Sheriff's deputies responding to peace disturbance.

Alarcon, on parole for prior drug convictions, was searched and deputies found nearly 3.5 ounces of methamphetamine valued at roughly $10,000 on him, according to deputies.

A second man, Ricky Leon Smith, 53 was also arrested but charges were later dropped.
