The Taft High varsity girls’ tennis team beat league opponent McFarland, 9-0, here on Tuesday.
“We won 108-6 in games. McFarland continues to have the worst tennis team in the county. Plus they only brought five players, instead of the minimum of eight,” Taft coach Jim Carnal lamented.
At No. 1, Taylan Erro beat Blanca Sepulveda, 6-0, 6-1. Lupita Lozano blanked Alex Andrade, 6-0, 6-0. Roxi Barboza was the first one off the court with a shut out of Tania Salazar, 6-0, 6-0. Haven Cook bageled Veronica Ortega, 6-0, 6-0. And, Jen Rivera beat Myra Diaz, 6-0, 6-0.
Gloria Okafor won No. 6 singles by default.
In doubles, Okafor and Griselda Ramos beat Sepulveda and Ortega, 6-0, 6-2.
In the closest match of the day, Karina Amaya and Liliana Noriega beat Andrade and Salazar, 6-0, 6-3. McFarland forfeit No. 3 doubles.
Taft improved to 15-4 overall, 11-2 in the South Sequoia League.
McFarland dropped to 0-13 overall and in league.
McFarland did not field a JV team.
