The Taft varsity volleyball closed out the first half of the league season Tuesday night with a 25-19, 25-19, 23-25, 25-19 victory over the Cesar Chavez Titans at home.
Taft had the momentum early when they jumped out to a 5-2 lead to begin the first set. Cesar Chavez narrowed tied the score at five. However, Taft pulled away with a 13-3 run to lead 18-8. The Lady Titans broke the run by stringing together two straight points. Later they would go on another run this time 5-2 to trail by six. Taft though would go on to take the first set.
The Lady Wildcats took off again in the second set with a 5-1 run. After Cesar Chavez fought back to tie the score twice, the Lady Wildcats went on an 8-2 run to. After narrowing the score to four the Lady Titans would cut the deficit to three at 16-13. However, that was as close as Cesar Chavez would get in the third set.
Taft started out the third set with a 4-2 run but Cesar Chavez countered with a 6-1 run. The Lady Wildcats tied the score but the Lady Titans went on a 5-1 run.
Cesar Chavez attempted to pull away but Taft countered to get within five. Late in the set, Taft cut the lead down to one but Cesar Chavez scored the final point.
After Taft jumped out to a 6-2 lead to begin the final set, Cesar Chavez narrowed the score one. That is when Taft took off with a 15-5 run to lead 21-12. Cesar Chavez would get within five but the Lady Wildcats scored the final point to win the set and match.
