Accident reported Sunday but not found until Monday on road east of Highway 33

Few details have be made available after a fatal accident off Highway 33 in northern Ventura County.

The CHP confirmed that the body of a white male was found in the wreckage of the pickup after the crash was discovered Monday by the United States Forest Service.

The victim's identity and hometown was not released.

The CHP said the truck was pulling a travel trailer, not a horse trailer as first reported, and the wreckage was found in a steep ravine 400 feet off Pine Mountain Road about 3.5 miles east of Highway 33.

That is roughly 5 miles south of Lockwood Valley Road.

A Ventura County Radio station reported emergency crews were first alerted to a possible accident on Sunday.

That report touched off a search involving a the Ventura County Sheriff's helicopter and the United States Forest Service but no trace of an accident was found despite an intense search, according to radio station KTVA.

The truck and trailer were discovered about 1 p.m. Monday, the CHP said.

No more information was immediately available. The crash is still under investigation, according to the CHP.
