In a matter of weeks families and friends will be getting together to give thanks. Yet there are some families that will need help getting food for that occasion. That is where West Side Community Resource Center will be stepping in with the annual Thanksgiving Food Basket Drive for local families.
People can collect food at their church, business or agency and bring food to the Westside Community Resource Center inside the Historic Fort.
Nonperishable foods will be collected from now until Friday, Nov. 22 Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Non perishable items being accepted are yams/sweet potatoes, canned vegetables, canned fruit, stuffing mix, gravy (mixed or canned) canned cranberry sauce, potatoes (real or instant), canned pie filling, money for turkeys and hams.
Perishable foods will be collected on Monday, Nov.25. Please notify as soon as possible with the number of turkeys you will be donating.
People can also donate funds to purchase perishable foods such as turkeys and potatoes. Monetary donations will be taken from now until Wednesday, Nov. 20. Please make checks payable to Together We Can.
There are two ways to drop off donations. The first is to take it to the Westside Community Resource Center at the Fort on 915 N. 10th Street, Suite 20. The other is to mail donation Attention:TWC to the address same address.
Should you chose to collect and distribute food within your own organization, you are asked to please contact the Resource Center with the names of the families you plan to serve so that we can avoid duplication of efforts.
