  • Taft Union High School tenors Isaiah Sharp and Jordan Romero were accepted into the Central California Regional Honor Choir. The duo qualified to sing in the Central California Honor Choir Nov. 14-16 in Stockton. After three days of rehearsal, the choir will perform in front of the public in Stockton on Nov. 16.
Sharp is a senior; Romero a junior. Romero said of the Kern County tryout, singing in Italian at Bakersfield High’s Harvey Auditorium, was “nerve wracking. I was excited and nervous at the same time. I felt like I wasn’t going to make it at all. When I found out that I made it, I was in utter shock.”
Sharp also plays saxophone and plans to pursue a four-year degree by starting at Taft College. He said he is excited and glad to have the opportunity to represent Taft High.
For the audition in Bakersfield, the boys had to learn an Italian solo, sing some scales and triads, match pitch from memory, and sight-sing in order to qualify for the prestigious event, explained choir director Amanda Locke. Six Taft students auditioned for the regional state honor choir.
