Taft loses 49-0 to Bakersfield Christian
The long season took another hard turn for the Taft varsity football team Friday night in a 49-0 loss to the Bakersfield Christian Eagles at home.
Bakersfield Christian only had a 7-0 lead at the end of the first quarter but that was when the Eagles took off. In the second quarter alone Bakersfield Christian scored two touchdowns on a four-yard pass and an 8-yard pass with 3:25 to go in the half.
Meanwhile, Taft's lone chance to get on the scoreboard came in the middle of the quarter when they got down to the Bakersfield Christian 32-yard line but they came away empty handed thanks to a botched hold on a field goal try.
The Eagles offense exploded in the third quarter with 21 points on two passes and a run. After Bakersfield Christian scored within the first 19 seconds of the final quarter, the running clock was implemented.
