A jury has found Dustin Wedel guilty of first degree murder for the beating death of a 3-year-old boy.
Wedel was convicted on charges of assault of a child under age 8 resulting in death and willful cruelty to a child.
The guilty verdicts were handed down Monday in a Kern County Superior Court in Bakersfield after a two-week trial.
Weddel is now being held without bail and his sentencing is scheduled for December 5.
Wedel, now 27, was arrested on June 23, 2011, five months to the day after Fanshier died.
Wedel was detained and questioned the night of the boy's death but later released.
He was arrested after tissue studies confirmed for investigators the the boy died from a beating.
Blunt force trauma was the official cause of death.
Fanshier was the son of Wedel's girlfriend's ex-boyfriend. They were living in a small bungalow at 200-1/2 Van Buren Street.
Medical aid was summoned on a Sunday night for a person not breathing.
Deputies arrived on scene shortly after the 911 call and found the boy lifeless. They started CPR but he was pronounced dead a short time later.
