Taft defeats Cesar Chavez in four sets

The Taft varsity volleyball team capped their season Thursday night with a win after they defeated the Cesar Chavez Titans 25-21, 17-25, 25-16, 25-21 in Delano.

Taft had the early advantage by jumping out to a 3-1 lead to begin the first set. Following a pair of ties, the Lady Titans surged ahead to lead by four. Cesar Chavez held onto the narrow lead until Taft tied the score at 13. After the teams tied one more time, Taft went on a 4-2 run. Cesar Chavez would pull within one on two different occasions but Taft went on to win the set.

It was Cesar Chavez's turn in the second set when they raced out to a 5-0 advantage. Taft cut the lead in half but the Lady Titans countered by increasing their lead. Taft fought back to get within three but Cesar Chavez went on a 4-1 run.

Taft whittled the lead down to four. However, the Lady Titans outscored the Lady Wildcats 10-6 the rest of the way to even the match.

The Lady Wildcats got momentum back on their side in the third set by reeling off six straight points. Cesar Chavez cut the deficit to five before Taft outscored the Lady Titans 6-3 to lead 15-7. After Cesar Chavez got their next point, Taft went on a 10-8 run to win the third set.

Cesar Chavez and Taft were involved in a tight fourth set with the teams tying each other six times before Taft pulled ahead by one. Cesar Chavez followed with a 6-0 run to lead 15-10. The Lady Titans held onto their lead until Taft evened the score at 16. After their set tying point Taft went on a 7-1 run. Cesar Chavez narrowed the deficit to four but Taft got the final point.
