The Taft Longhorns got off to a rough start to the second annual Taft Longhorns Triple Play Turkey Fest Tournament Saturday by losing two games in the 11U bracket.
Taft opened their tournament run in the morning with an 11-5 loss to the Bakersfield Outlaws.
A couple of hours later, Taft found themselves in a much tougher battle with Arvin pulling out a 6-5 victory in five innings.
After Arvin had made the first move with two runs in the second inning, Taft roared back with three in the last half of the third inning thanks in part to a pair of back-to-back doubles and a run scoring single. Arvin tied the score in the fourth but Reese Hammons gave Taft the lead back with a homerun to center.
However, Arvin caught fire with three runs in the fifth inning to get the advantage back.
Taft attempted to erase the deficit with a run in their final at bat but they were unable to get another run home.
The Longhorns compete in the second day of the tournament Sunday with two games.
Note: The 11U division is not the only division taking part in the tournament with several other divisions also competing.
