Mary Jo Harrell, age 90, of Hermitage, Missouri, passed away on Sunday, November 10, 2013, at Christian Health and Rehab of Hermitage. She was born on May 30, 1923, along with her twin sister Betty, in Dallas, Texas, to Joseph and Betty Crowder. After living in Iowa and Oklahoma, Mary and her family relocated to Hollywood in the 1940s.  While there, she worked as an Animation Cell Artist for Walt Disney Studios and also in the Art Department at MGM Studios.  On August 13, 1949, she married Thomas Owen Harrell in Dalhart, Texas. They settled in Taft, California, where they raised their four children while Tom coached football at Taft College. Mary was an avid golfer for many years and a member of the Taft Women’s Golf Association. After retiring, they enjoyed their years in Morro Bay, California, Las Vegas, Nevada, and Bolivar, Missouri.
She is preceded in death by her mother, Betty Hale Crowder, her brother, George Wallace Crowder, and her husband of 61 years, Tom Harrell.
She is survived by her sister, Betty Curtis; three daughters, Tracey Cain and her husband, Randy; Mora Bond; Marsha Mello and her husband, John; one son, David Harrell; one granddaughter, Marisa Eytalis and her husband, Mark; one great-granddaughter, Ruby Eytalis.
A memorial service will be at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 27, at Hathaway-Peterman Funeral Home in Wheatland, Missouri. Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America.
