Boy recovering from injuries in Santa Maria. Benefit being planned in Taft

Nick Mansell, the 12-year-old Taft boy critically injured in a motorcycle crash that claimed the life of his father, has been released from the hospital.

Mansell, who lost his left leg and suffered multiple fractures, is recovering at a relatives home in Santa Maria, his family said.

He will be returning to the hospital soon for more therapy and to be fitted with a prosthetic leg.

He is continuing to recover, and, when he is strong enough, will be attending a benefit that is being planned for sometime early next year in Taft.

Mansell was hospitalized in Los Angeles Children's hospital for treatment of the injuries he suffered in the Labor Day accident.

Nick's father, Robert Mansell, was killed in the crash when the motorcycle the pair were riding on collided with a truck on Highway 33 at Wood Street.
