On the positive side for the Taft varsity girls soccer team was that they won. The only downside was it was a scrimmage and didn't count as the Lady Wildcats blew past North 8-0 in Bakersfield Monday evening.
“They played a devastating and inspiring game,” said Taft coach Abel Pedro. “They grinded them up in both the technical and tactical aspects of the game."
Bethany Fitzsimmons led the charge by scoring six goals while getting an assist. Lizette Mendoza had a goal and four assists while Aydee Alvarez had the other goal. Karen Quinonez had two assists with Nayli Alcantar chipping in with one.
By halftime, Taft was leading 6-0.
“It’s a step in the right direction but it has just started and there are a lot more steps to take to get where we are. The way to excellence is one step at a time.”
