Marianne Cabot, age 62, passed away on Nov. 23, 2013, at her home in Scott Valley.
She is survived by her husband, Craig Cabot; two children, Marc Cabot and Kristi Cabot; and her brothers and sisters, Debra, Kenneth, Jeffrey, John and Dana.
Marianne was born on Aug. 21, 1951, in Woodland, Calif., and moved to the Salmon River with her family at age 4. She attended the Forks of Salmon School from kindergarten through eighth grade and later Fort Jones High School, followed by two years at College of the Siskiyous. After the 1964 Salmon River flood, Marianne and her family relocated to Scott Valley and established the Scott Valley Orchard and Winery.
Marianne's passion for the outdoors led her to an 18-year career as a surveyor's assistant. Her love for horses and backpacking began at an early age and resulted in countless trips into the Marble Mountain Wilderness – many times starting on the valley floor with her horse, Desquite, and riding solo into the wilderness for multi-night trips. Marianne's other hobbies included gardening, photography and tending her 40 chickens.
Marianne met Craig in 1978 and they were married in 1981. Together, they purchased 20 acres in Quartz Valley, and built the house where they raised their children. Marianne's hard work ethic, love of the outdoors, animals and family are all qualities that she instilled in her family.
A service for Marianne will be held on Monday, Dec. 2, at 10:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church in Fort Jones. A potluck gathering will be held after across the street at the Parish Hall.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to one of these organizations: Disabled American Veterans, Scott Valley Scholarships or Kidder Creek Camps. Online condolences may be made at www.girdnerfuneralchapel.com. Girdner's is assisting the family.
"We will miss you very much."
