Mount Shasta is back to having two pharmacies once Owens opens at 216 N. Mt. Shasta Blvd., next to The Oven Bakery. Their first day in business will be Wednesday, Dec. 4. In addition to prescriptions and over the counter items, Owens Pharmacy will offer durable medical equipment, such as wheelchairs, lift chairs and oxygen, said company CEO John Friesen. He noted that these are products not currently offered elsewhere in the Mt. Shasta area. Some of the Owens employees are people who were laid off from Pharmacy Express when it closed its doors in Ray’s Food Place last month, Friesen said. The pharmacist will be Boris Pereira, formerly of Mount Shasta’s Rite Aid. Once the business is up and running, Owens may begin offering other services, including compounded prescriptions and home infusions, such as antibiotics and chemotherapy. Owens will provide free home delivery to Mount Shasta, Dunsmuir, and McCloud. They also operate a pharmacy in Weed. “We’re very excited,” said Friesen. “We’ve had very good experiences in Siskiyou County and are looking forward to being part of the Mount Shasta community.” Owens Pharmacy, which is based in Redding and has been family owned since 1957, will be open in Mount Shasta from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday. A Grand Opening celebration will be held in the coming weeks.
