After falling to Mira Monte earlier in the week, the Taft varsity girls basketball team didn't have much time to turn around when they split two games in the Selma Tournament Wednesday.
Taft kicked off the tournament with a 24-19 loss to Mt. Whitney.
Mt. Whitney held a 10-7 advantage at the end of the first quarter before outscoring Taft 5-0 in the second. The Lady Wildcats bounced back in the third quarter by holding a 6-3 edge over Mt. Whitney. Taft was unable to make a move in the fourth quarter when both teams scored six points.
Johanna Wilke led in scoring with 10 while Welborn had 9.
Taft got their first win of the season in the second game when they defeated Coalinga 47-29.
After Taft jumped out to a 15-6 advantage at the end of the first quarter, Coalinga fought back by outscoring Taft 8-2.
Taft put the game away in the third quarter when they erupted for 30 points while Coalinga was held to 15.
