Indians fall by 10 to Northwest Christian

It was not the way the Maricopa varsity boys basketball team wanted to open their season Thursday after falling to Northwest Christian 49-39 at home.

Maricopa scored 14 points in the first quarter seven in the second and nine in the third and fourth quarters.

Paul Erwin led the Indians in scoring with 12 while Alvaro Machuca followed with 9. Antonio Garcia and Sesar Gonales each had 7.

Garcia led the team in rebounding with 9 while Erwin had 7 and Machuca had 5. Erwin led in steals with 3.

Maricopa returns to action next Friday when they travel to Lancaster to face Antelope Valley Christian. The game starts at 7:30 p.m.
