Taft defeats Foothill for lone win
Sometimes a regular season tournament could be like a roller coaster ride for a team. It was for the Taft freshmen girls basketball team this past weekend after they went 1-3 in a tournament at Arvin.
“The girls were disappointed in the outcome and felt they should have done better and there is always room to improve but our work ethic and sportsmanship was what really stood out to me this weekend,” said Taft coach Andrew Le Clair.
Taft started out with a 31-7 victory over Foothill Friday night.
“The girls were on point in that game and ran the floor very well making great passes and smart shots,” said Le Clair.
The Lady Wildcats joy disappeared Saturday morning with a 39-8 loss to Delano.
“Delano came ready to play and we did not,” said LeClair.
Taft was supposed to get break but Tehachapi was snowed in and couldn’t make it. Instead, the Lady Wildcats followed their game against Delano with 31-8 loss to Cesar Chavez.
A couple of hours later, Arvin capped Taft’s tournament run with a 19-12 victory over the Lady Wildcats.
“Our bench doesn’t go very deep and I’m proud of the girls for running the court through three tough games but they took fourth overall.”
Taft returns to action Tuesday when they travel to Bakersfield to take on South. The game begins at 4 p.m.
