Lady Wildcats lone in tournament was to Stockdale

The Taft freshmen girls basketball had a long weekend in Bakersfield after going 1-3 at a tournament at Independence High School.

“It was a tough tournament with difficult teams but we played much better than I expected,” said Taft coach Andrew LeClair.

The tone was set for the Lady Wildcats in their first game with a 38-8 loss to Delano. The second and third games were closer but Taft lost to Independence 19-15 and Golden Valley by a score of 19-11.

Taft broke through with a win in their final game by edging out Stockdale 25-24.

“Between playing tougher down low and just making smarter decisions with the ball we hung with teams very well for most of the games,” said LeClair. “Once we fine tun ourselves and continue to practice hard we can set ourselves up for a very successful season.”
