Games will mainly take place Friday and Saturdays

Tis' the season for cold weather, shopping and a countdown to the holidays.

Several Taft High teams can also add tournaments to that list as they wrap up their non-league season with tournaments in Kern County over the next couple of weeks.

The varsity girls basketball and soccer teams along with the varsity boys soccer team will kick off their tournament schedule this Friday.

The varsity boys and girls soccer teams will be competing in the Garces Tournament with the boys taking on Woodlake in the Silver B Division while the girls take on Antelope Valley.

Both matches will take place at the State Farm Sports Village with both matches starting at 3 p.m.

If both teams win they will play again at 10:45 a.m.

If the boys win, they will take on the winner of the Exeter-Kennedy match. If the girls win, they will take on either Mendota-Porterville. If either team loses they will play again at 9 a.m. Saturday.

While the soccer teams will be starting their tournament, the varsity girls basketball team will be kicking off their tournament run in Arvin.

Taft will open up with a game against Delano at Sunset Middle School. The game begins at 6 p.m.

The following day the Lady Wildcats take on Mira Monte at Arvin High School at 2 p.m.

If Taft does well in the tournament, they will play again Saturday evening and possibly Monday.

Meanwhile, the junior varsity boys and girls basketball teams will also be in action.

The boys will be competing in the two day McFarland Tournament while the girls will be competing in the Independence Tournament. Both will start on Friday.

While most of the teams will be playing their tournaments out of town, the Taft freshmen girls basketball team will be playing theirs in Taft.

The freshmen start their run Friday afternoon when they take on West in Mullen Gym at 3 p.m.

Two hours later, the Lady Wildcats will square off against Frontier in Mullen Gym at 5 p.m.

The following day, Taft goes up against Wasco at 10 a.m.

Taft will then face Frazier Mountain at noon before taking on Shafter at 2 p.m.

All three of the games will be held in the Mullen Gym.

A week later, the varsity boys basketball team will head up to Wasco to take part in a tournament.

Taft opens their tournament schedule against an undetermined opponent at 12:30 p.m. Friday.

The Wildcats return later that afternoon to take on McFarland at 3:30 p.m.

A day later, Taft will face league opponent Cesar Chavez to conclude pool play. The game begins at 9:30 a.m.

Following that game, the Wildcats will have a game in bracket play. The time of the game will be determined on how well they do.
