  • Scott Valley resident Kennith Victor Christ, 60, died after a long battle with cancer.
Surrounded by his wife and children, he passed away at home on Sunday, Dec. 15, 2013.
Kenny was born on April 7, 1953, the third of five sons to Frank and Delta Christ in San Rafael, Calif. He grew up in the Sausalito area and graduated from Tamalpais High School in 1971. He and his family moved to Scott Valley in 1972; he called it home for the rest of his life.
Kenny worked as a timber faller for more than 25 years. He was also a mechanic, real estate agent and mail carrier. Kenny valued his faith in God and family above all. He also enjoyed backpacking into the local wilderness areas and had a wealth of knowledge about history and geography. He was a friend to many and always willing to lend a helping hand.
Kenny is survived by his wife of 25 years, Sharmel Christ of Quartz Valley; daughters Clair Blais of Redding, Calif., (husband Ryan), Jaime Banks of Quartz Valley (husband Lance); and son Vaughn Sims of Quartz Valley. He is survived by his parents, Frank and Delta Christ of Etna; and all four of his brothers: Frank Christ (wife Diane) of Etna, Dennis Christ (wife Kathy) of Etna, David Christ (wife Sherrill) of Etna and Joe Christ (wife Damaris) of Elk Grove, Calif. He has seven grandchildren: Nyah, Kiera, Halle, Tristan, Isaiah Blais, and Darby and Piper Banks; and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at the Berean Church in Etna on Saturday, Dec. 28, 2013, at 3 p.m. Potluck reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Madrone Hospice at 255 Collier Circle, Yreka, CA 96097.
