  • With great sadness we announce the passing of our beloved husband and father, Samuel C. George, on Dec. 31, 2013.
Sam was born in Cecilville on April 16, 1938, and lived there most of his life.
He is survived by his wife, Ramona; and his eight children: Rosellen, Mitzi, Samantha, Clarence, Renae, April, Timber and James. Sam was also grandfather to 12 adoring grandchildren. He was the first to introduce them to heavy equipment and candy bars.
Sam worked as a log truck driver in Northern California and Southern Oregon during most of his career. He was well known as "Salmon River Sam." He enjoyed mining for gold, "mechanic-ing" and making unforgettable memories with his family.
Hobbies included playing guitar, hiking to local lakes with Ramona and his children, and reading westerns. Sam liked to say he was a "Jack of all trades and a Master of none," but we all know that he was a man of great ingenuity and a master truck driver, equipment operator, mechanic and All-Star Papa.
A memorial will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 11, 2014, at the Cecilville Community Center. Lunch will be provided.
"Our family requests that in lieu of flowers, please donate to a heart health organization of your choice."
