  •  Misdemeanor manslaughter charges have been filed against a Bakersfield truck driver stemming from a Labor Day, 2013 crash that killed a Taft motorcyclist and critically injured his son.
However, no hearing dates have been set yet, according to the Kern County Superior Court website.
Chad Harrelson was driving a tractor-trailer combination that made a left turn from Highway 33 to Wood Street in front of a motorcycle driven by Robert Mansell.
Mansell, 56, was southbound on Highway 33, He was killed when the motorcycle collided with the front of the tractor and his son, Nick, 12, suffered severe injuries that left him hospitalized for two months.
Taft Police submitted reports a short time after the crash seeking a manslaughter complaint.
The report was sent back to police for further investigation.
Court records show one count of misdemeanor manslaughter without gross negligence and one count of failing to yield the right-of-way to Mansell when he was making the left turn.
Taft Police Lt. Pete Aranda said last week that he had been told that Harrelson's attorney had been contacted and told of the charges but, to his knowledge, Harrelson had not surrendered himself.
