A Taft man arrested in December while wearing a pair of shoes Kern County Sheriff's deputies say he had taken during a robbery a short time earlier was sentenced to spend two years behind bars.
Michael Leeray Collins, 22, pleaded no contest to possession of stolen property in Kern County Superior Court and was sentenced on January 13.
Collions was arrested Dec. 1, a few hours after the victim told a deputy he had been accosted by two men who accosted him and demanded his shoes and cell phone.
The victim complied, and was spotted running barefoot from the scene a few moments later.
The victim's description of the suspect matched Collins, a parolee who had been spotted in the same area just before the robbery, Kern County Sheriff's Sr. Deputy Stephen Wells said.
Collins was arrested by a Taft Police officer at 5 a.m. Dec. 1, about six hours after the crime was reported.
He was wearing the victim's shoes at the time, officers said.
The second suspect has not been found.
