Born January 12, 1930 in Inglewood, CA to James and Hazel Temple, Jim passed away January 15, 2014 in Riverside, CA after a three-month battle with leukemia. Jim retired to Ridgecrest in 1992. He first came to the area in the summer of 1945 when his family moved to China Lake, where his father was the first civilian firefighter hired on the base. Jim graduated from Burroughs High School in 1948 and joined the Army in 1949. He served his first tour in Japan, then was recalled during the Korean War and was sent to France. After his Army service, he attended San Jose State and began his long career in insurance investigative work. He lived in the San Jose area many years but also lived briefly in Santa Cruz, Phoenix and Manhattan Beach.
Jim moved to Santa Ana in 1981 until he retired in 1992. Then he returned to the desert where he was able to reconnect with old friends and spend twenty-one years in happy retirement. He loved dogs and shared his home with two canine companions over the years. (“Gracie” is now living with Jim’s niece and her family.)
Jim will be remembered for his friendly personality, quick wit and love of family and friends. He is survived by his brother John (Mary Ann) Temple, his sister Doris (Jim) Ferguson, his niece Karen (Jeff) Van Dam, his nephew John (Lisa) Temple and seven grand-nieces and nephews and three great-grand nieces and nephews. He is also survived by several cousins. He will be greatly missed by his family and many friends.
