  • Screams trigger air, ground search of California Aqueduct

  • No victim located. CHP and KCFD scour canal after DWR employees hear "blood curdling screams."

  • Kern County firefighters searched the California Aqueduct east of Taft Tuesday morning for possible drowning victim.
    Officers and firefighters searched the canal from the Buena Vista Pumping Plant on Lake Station Road to a point south of Gardner Field Road near the federal prison but found no victim.
    A KCFD helicopter flew up and down the canal searching from the air as well.
    The search started about 6:30 a.m. when California Department of Water Resources heard “a blood-curdling scream” that sounded like it was coming from the Aqueduct near the, CHP officer Adam Taylor said.
