They'll be in quarterfinals on Thursday after beating Rosamond

The Taft varsity boys basketball team got off to a roaring start in the CIF Central Section playoffs Tuesday night with a 71-58 victory over the Rosamond Roadrunners.

With the victory, Taft advances to Thursday's quarterfinal game.

Rosamond outscored the Wildcats 3-2 to begin the game but Taft caught fire with a 13-0 run thanks to Zack Kolb's six points, Jacob Lopez's five (including a three pointer) and Tevin Howell's jumper.

The Roadrunners finally broke the run but they couldn't get within ten points the rest of the quarter.

Taft continued their run into the second quarter by reeling off six straight points to lead 25-7. Rosamond countered with an 8-0 run to get within 25-15. However, the teams traded baskets until the Wildcats went on a 5-2 run to close out the half.

The teams regained their trading off points in the third quarter before Taft scored three straight points. The Roadrunners countered with a three-pointer but Taft scored the final four points of the third quarter to lead 51-32.

Rosamond threatened to get back into the game in the fourth quarter thanks to a 7-1 run. After a Taft layup, the Roadrunners scored on back-to-back layups.

The teams returned to trading baskets until Taft scored four straight late in the fourth quarter. After a Roadrunner basket, Taft closed out the game by hitting a pair of free throws.
