Abelardo Guitron will be sentenced on March 19
A Taft man arrested in connection with an early morning pursuit pleaded no contest to one felony count of reckless evading police in a vehicle last week in Kern County Superior Court.
Abelardo Guitron, 20 will be sentenced on March 19.
Guitron was arrested by Taft Police and Kern County sheriff's deputies after a high-speed early morning chase that started whenTaft Police responded to a report of a man down on the 700 block of Kern Street early on Feb. 2.
Arriving officers sawa a vehicle leaving the scene and tried to makes a traffic stop, according to reports at the time.
The vehicle sped away with officers in pursuit.
The chase ended in Ford City when the vehicle crashed into parked vehicle, then into a front yard on the 100 block of Madison Street.
Guitron and two others in the vehicle were detained but the other two were not charged.
As part of a plea agreement, several other counts filed against Guitron, including assault with a deadly weapon, felony resisting arrest and misdemeanor hit and run were dismissed. Guitron hasa been held on $100,000 bail since his arrest.
