Wildcats compete in East Bakersfield relays

Despite the unsettled conditions, the Taft boys and girls track and field teams officially kicked off their season Saturday afternoon when they competed in the East Bakersfield relays.


Zack Kolb had the best finish of the day among the Wildcat varsity team by coming in third in the triple jump with a mark of 36’06. Roy Allen was fourth in the shot put with a mark of 41’01 and ninth in the discus with a mark of 111’10.

In the freshmen field events, Cody McCaleb was sixth with a mark of 4’11 in the high jump while Seth Bullard and Camden Scalera were tied with Tehachapi’s Andrew Lindsey and Hollis Kimbrough for eighth with a mark of 4’05.

The highest placement for the Wildcats in the running events came in the freshmen 4x100, the 4x200 relay and the 4x800 relay. McCaleb, Gable, Chris Kast and Barington Lewis teamed up to finish with a time of 47.98 in the 4x100 while the Wildcats had a time of 1:42.74 and a 9:29.94 in the 4x800.

Brayden Lee was sixth in the freshmen 1600 meters with a time of 5:02.49. Matthew Cordova was tenth in the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 20.52.

Cesar Guerrero and Kolb each had a 12th place finish in their respective varsity races. Guerrero was 12th in the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 19.50 while Kolb was 12th in the 300 meter hurdles with a time of 47.77.


Jacqueline Summers and Karina Amaya each had the highest finish among the Lady Wildcats. Summers came in fifth in the varsity shot put with a mark of of 29’07.50 with Amaya finishing fifth in the varsity triple jump with a mark of 28’16.

Jessica McDonald, Abby Xancale, Yulisa Martinez and Heather Segrest teamed up to finish ninth in the 4x800 meter relay with a time of 12:10.18. Kelsey Rushing, Sarah Kelley, Amaya and Kassidy Murphy joined forces to finish 11th in the varsity 4x100 relay with a time of 58.85.

Mayda Cisneros was 14th in the 3200 meter relay with a time of 14:21.63.

Taft has a week off before they take part in their next relay next Saturday when they compete in the Redcat Relay in Fowler. The meet begins at 9 a.m.
