Taft defeats Independence
It was one of those days where a game of golf would be perfect thing to play. The Taft boys golf team took advantage of those conditions and their familiar surroundings when they defeated Independence 496-555 Monday afternoon at Buena Vista Golf Course.
“We’re improving steadily, striking the ball more consistently and learnig course management skills,” said Taft assistant coach Mike Cowan.
Tanner Leikam shot the lowest round of the day for the Wildcats with an 88. Harrison Sorensen was two strokes back with a 90 while Bryce Fuller had a round of 103. Marcus Grossboard followed with a 106 while Colby Stuck chipped in with a 109.
Matt Phillips had a round of 114 while Tanner Melton rounded out the performance with a 133.
“We’re still working on scoring from 50 yards and in where a majority of our shots are happening,” said Cowan. “If we can get consistent around the greens and two put regularly our scores will drop significantly.”
Taft opens the South Sequoia League Tournament Thursday. The match begins at 1 p.m.
