Man accused of lewd acts with 12-year-old he met through social media last year
A Taft man will be going on trial April on charges he molested a 12-year-old girl he met over the internet.
Emmanual Diaz Martines is charged with two counts of lewd and lascivious acts with a child under 14.
Diaz was arrested by Kern County Sheriff's deputies in November following a six-day investigation.
A Taft Police school resource officer was alerted to a possible case of child molestation and the case was turned over to the Sheriff when it was determined it occurred in the county.
Kern County Sheriff's Sgt. Martin Downs said Martines, 21, met the girl through the online social media.
Martines has been held in custody on $75,000 bail since his arrest on November 12.
His trial is set for April 14 in Kern County Superior Court in Bakersfield.
He has pleaded not guilty to the charges.
