Maier will replace Jamie Henderson. He has been a teacher, principal, superintendent and held other you-related jobs
The Kern County Children and Families Commission announced today they have named Roland Maier as the new Executive Director for First 5 Kern.
He will fill the position held by Jamie Henderson, who will retire in March. Maier will begin on Tuesday, April 1, 2014.
Maier has a long history of advocating for the children of Kern County. He served as a Commissioner on the Kern County Children and Families Commission. He is well-versed in the Proposition 10 legislation that created First 5 Kern, and the work of the organization, which invests approximately $10 million a year in programs that serve Kern County children prenatal to age five and their families.
During his more than 25 years experience in education, he has held positions as teacher, vice principal, principal and director in Bakersfield, Taft, Wasco and Arvin before serving the last three years as Superintendent of the Cuyama Joint Unified School District. In advocating for the well-being of children, he actively developed partnerships with community organizations, businesses and government to address issues vital to the community. He also has advocated at the state level for increased awareness of the needs of children and their families.
“We are pleased to have Roland’s experience as a teacher, administrator and First 5 Kern commissioner. His background is extremely valuable and will allow for a seamless transition as executive director of First 5 Kern,” says Larry J. Rhoades, Commission chair.
Maier expressed his zeal on the selection and passion for First 5 Kern and said, “I am honored to be selected as the new executive director of First 5 Kern and look forward to working with an exceptional Commission and professional staff. First 5 has always been a strong advocate for children and their families in Kern County. I want to continue to work with all 40 of our service providers and the myriad agencies involved at the local, regional, state and national levels. I am truly excited to be a part of such a dynamic and successful organization.”
Maier has been a member of the Rotary Club of Taft since 1996. He also served on
the board of directors of West Side Recreation and Park District and has coached various youth teams through AYSO (American Youth Soccer Organization), NOR (North of the River), Southwest Little League in Bakersfield and Westside Parks and Recreation District
